A plea to all Sherlockians.
I’m not asking you to read and memorize every novel or story, or to watch every film/television adaptation, or to even force yourselves to like them all. I’m simply asking you to recognize that our fandom is a profoundly old fandom and as such we have an expansive history. Like Doctor Who, all of us have a Holmes and Watson we thoroughly love and identify as our Consulting Detective and Faithful Doctor.
With that in mind I plead with you, don’t chastise your fellow Sherlockians simply because their Holmes and Watson may be different from yours. We are better than that - I know we are.
And to those of you who have adopted the singular attitude of “if you don’t like the fandom you don’t have to be a part of it,” shame on you. Shame on you. How dare you decide who deserves to be welcomed with open arms and and who consequently must be turned away?
No matter your Holmes and Watson, we are all Sherlockians. Let’s treat one another with respect, yeah?
